Situated within pleasant school grounds on the Calthorpe Park Estate in Fleet, Tavistock pre-school offers children the highest quality of pre-school care. The pre-school provides play and education for children aged 2 until the time they are ready to start school with flexible drop off and collection times which means you are free to choose the length of time your child is with us from 2 - 6.5 hours per day. We work with a ratio of one adult to four children for the under 3s and one adult to eight children for the over 3s. There is a Key-person system in place to provide each child with continuity in their care.
We provide a safe, secure and fun environment for children to learn through their play. Paula, as Manager with Early Years Practitioner Status, and Fiona, as Deputy Manager, ensure the staff team deliver a high quality provision at all times. This provision is delivered through a balance of adult-led activities derived from child interests and through child-initiated play enhanced by adult interaction. This is possible through our ‘continuous provision’ with all resources available at all times, allowing children to freely choose the ‘tools to learn with’ (toys/activities), ‘where’ they want to learn (playing inside/outside/at a table/on the floor etc) and ‘who’ they want to learn with (adult/group/with friends/ alone etc). Our provision encourages children to ‘learn how to learn’. Practitioners monitor children’s learning through short regular observations. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum to monitor their learning and development.

We are registered to take children from 2 years old. We operate an Admissions list which runs in Birth date order, it is not relevant how long you have been on our waiting list however we take application forms from any age. When spaces are available they are offered to the next child on our Admissions list which is filed according to our Admissions policy. We will endeavour to offer children a place by the time they are entitled to their Government grant funding. This is applicable to all children from the term after their third Birthday. If we have availability we will offer children places before this time.
We ask for a non-refundable registration fee of £25 at the time of offering a child a space. A place with us then becomes guaranteed.
